Brown envelope joy

Official brown envelopes in the morning post usually bring depressing news for the recipient.

Today we received not one, but two such missives and both brought us some early Christmas cheer.

The first letter we opened was from HM Revenue & Customs which advised us that our appeal in the summer against an additional income tax surcharge had succeeded while the second confirmed that a £60 parking fine had been withdrawn after our appeal on the grounds that there were no street signs to show where we left our car was restricted to residents only.

Our faith in British justice has been restored (for today only)
